When to Apply

As an international applicant there are important deadlines you must meet in order to begin classes during your desired term. Choose your program, decide in which term you want to start your courses, and follow the application process timeline below. 

Note, the deadlines below are for international applicants who will be studying in the U.S. on a student visa.

*The Master of Science in Regulatory Affairs and Master of Science in Global Studies are the only programs that meet F1 visa requirements for full-time study during the summer term. International students who wish to study full-time on an F1 visa are not eligible to begin classes in other graduate or undergraduate programs during the summer term.


By following the suggested timeline below,  you should easily meet all requirements to begin classes during the term of your choice.


10-12Months Before (non-transfer student)
8-9 Months Before (transferring student)

  • Review & make a list of admissions requirements
  • Determine if you need to submit an English Proficiency Test score
 
8-10 Months Before (non-transfer student)
6-8 Months Before (transferring student)

  • Take the English Proficiency Test and have scores sent to the College
  • Complete the application form
  • Request official transcripts from all secondary schools and universities you attended
  • Identify references; ask them to write your reference letters
  • Write application essay (statement of purpose)*
  • Prepare curriculum vitae (resume)*
 
6-8 Months Before (non-transfer student)
5-6 Months Before (transferring student)

  • Submit application
  • Complete Declaration of Finances (DCF) Form, provide financial documentation, & submit supporting documents required for Certificate of Eligibility (I-20)
 
3-5 Months Before (non-transfer student)

Your application will be reviewed by the admissions committee. If you are accepted and decide to study at the College:
  • Wait for your I-20. Apply for your student visa when you receive it
  • Once you have your student visa, review the pre-arrival guide, complete the Northeastern University Health Report Form, arrange your health insurance coverage, finances and accommodations
  • Make travel arrangements to Boston
3-5 Months Before (transferring student)

Your application will be reviewed by the admissions committee. If you are accepted and decide to study at the College:
  • Submit a Transfer-In Notification Form to the school you're currently attending
  • After the transfer process, review the pre-arrival guide, complete the Northeastern University Health Report Form, arrange your health insurance coverage, finances and accommodations
