If you’re interested in working in a health-related profession or continuing on to graduate school to obtain an advanced degree in medicine, dentistry, respiratory therapy, nursing, or public health, then you should consider a bachelor’s degree in health science—a solid foundation for either path.
An academically rigorous degree program, the Bachelor of Science in Health Science includes science-based courses in biology, human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, pharmacology, epidemiology, and nutrition. Augmented by practical courses in health law, healthcare delivery systems, training and development, and health issues, this curriculum provides you with a well-rounded educational experience.
This bachelor’s degree program offers you the choice of two specializations—health management or pre-med—enabling you to deepen your expertise in your area of interest within the health sciences.
Who it’s for? The Bachelor of Science in Health Science is designed for students who are interested in working in a health-related industry, either in a management or professional role. This BS degree is also well suited for students who wish to pursue a graduate degree in a medicine, dentistry, respiratory therapy, nursing (direct entry), or public health. Graduates of this degree program will be prepared for careers as science technicians, personal trainers, medical and health services managers, insurance underwriters, and social or community service managers.
What the job market looks like: Healthcare is one of the fastest growing fields in the country. Health science graduates will be well equipped to pursue clinical and non-clinical opportunities in hospitals, clinics, government agencies, sports facilities, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies. Because of the many specialties available, your career path will be largely determined by the health science courses you select to complete your degree.
