The pre-college Business Institute at Northeastern is for talented rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who want to test their ideas, reach beyond their comfort zones, and meet peers with different perspectives. When not in class, a wide array of exciting activities are available to choose from so you can experience summer in one of the most popular destination cities in the U.S.

The intensive two-week program focuses on providing students with an experience-based introduction to the main principles needed to pursue a degree and career in business. Students will apply the lessons taken from the classroom and develop a new business venture, product, idea or dream. Beginning with their chosen business, the entire course is geared toward the final development of a Business Plan. Along the way, students are introduced to Marketing, Finance, Management and basic business concepts.

Business: Students will be provided with a foundation for understanding how American business operates in a global marketplace. Practical applications of business principles and current events will be emphasized.

Management: Businesses and individuals in the twenty-first century undergo rapid and unpredictable change, and a significant part of this change involves managing in increasingly diverse global and domestic environments. Students will focus on increasing personal awareness, understanding, and skill to function effectively with members of different ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.

Marketing: Students will take an in depth look at marketing through lectures, readings, and small group discussions on the role of marketing in contemporary society, in the business enterprise, and in the nonprofit organization.

Finance: Students will be introduced to basic financial frameworks, concepts, principles, tools and techniques. Topics include financial analysis, financial planning, working capital management, the time value of money, and introduction to domestic and international financial markets, and traditional sources of debt and equity financing.

Northeastern University boasts a true urban campus, centrally located in the heart of Boston’s famed Fenway neighborhood. The program includes housing in one of the university’s modern residence halls and a meal-plan in our highly-rated dining facilities. In addition to your classes, the Summer Pre-College Program also includes side trips and college visits, as well as easy access to shopping, world-class museums, and sight-seeing in Boston.
