American Correctional System

Presents an overview and critical analysis of correctional systems, emphasizing interrelationships of all aspects of corrections. Topics include historical developments; policy analysis; decision making; and the range of treatment/punishment options available, including probation and parole. Discusses current correctional philosophy and treatment approaches on federal, state, and local levels. Includes a historical, philosophical, and pragmatic view of community corrections and an analysis of alternatives to imprisonment or institutionalization.
