DPT3461 / 4 q.h.
Starting with the fall 2009 term, this course will be renumbered as PTH 6403.
Foot and ankle pathology is common in physical therapy practice. Overuse injuries are often a result of abnormal foot mechanics or due to imbalances higher in the kinetic chain. This course is designed to demonstrate how abnormal foot mechanics can contribute to lower extremity pathology. Through lecture presentations, literature review, and discussions of clinical presentations and case studies, participants will gain an understanding of normal and abnormal gait as it relates to orthopedic dysfunction. In addition, participants will gain an understanding of various treatment interventions to address faulty biomechanics.
