Sheltered English Instruction and Assessment

Offers students an opportunity to critically analyze the ways in which contemporary issues are affecting the teaching and learning of nonnative speakers in the schools Covers how these issues are manifested inside and outside the classroom; how our opinions about these issues affect expectations and our ability to establish a learning environment in the classroom; what the obstacles are that prevent students/teachers from considering these issues when planning lessons; what understandings, in regard to these issues, need to be in place in order to create attitudes, strategies, and curricula that promote students achieving high levels of performance; how sheltered instruction can be a part of the classroom on a daily basis; and what sheltered instruction looks like in content area and enriching classes.
