The Urban University in the United States

Explores the development and special characteristics of the urban university in the United States. Includes the following: an introductory session focused on the meaning of the term “urban university” and the societal importance of this type of institution, a sequence of historically-oriented classes that explore the emergence and evolution of different types of urban universities from the late nineteenth century to the present, a sequence of topically-oriented classes that will focus on various aspects of urban universities in terms of both their internal characteristics and their relationships with their surrounding communities, and a view of selected urban universities in the United States. Prereq. EdD students only.
