Professional Leadership and Communication Practicum
EDU7273 / 3 q.h.
Understanding what needs to be communicated and even how to communicate does not guarantee an ability to actually communicate. Leaders in organizations may thrive because of demonstrated ability to communicate or have their advancement stunted because of communication skill deficiencies. This course requires students to demonstrate proficiency in several communication areas: leading meetings, speaking to large audiences, responding to questions in press conference conditions, reducing interpersonal conflict in the role of an intermediary, dealing with difficult if talented personalities in dyadic contexts, and participating in tense negotiation sessions. Principles and techniques in each area are reviewed. Students have an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities in these areas in simulated exercises and receive coaching from instructors to improve skill sets.
