Examines the literary traditions of the Age of Reason, romanticism, realism, and modernism in such works as Voltaire’s Candide, Goethe’s Faust, Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons, Ibsen’s The Wild Duck, Kafka’s Metamorphosis, and Brecht’s Caucasian Chalk Circle.
