Introduction to Stress Analysis

ETM3101 / 3 q.h.
Formerly ETM 4316.

Presents the basics of linear and torsional stress (F/A) for mechanical elements. Presents principles for solving statically determinate and indeterminate loaded mechanical elements and effects of thermal expansion on the stress and determinate solution of a mechanical element. Examines columns and beams determining stress and strain and factors of safety and temperature effects. Other topics include shear and moment diagrams, flexural and transverse shearing stresses, torsional stress, and deformations. Prereq. ETM 1101.
