Considers the history of African-Americans from colonial times to the present. Includes topics such as African-American historical roots, slavery, Reconstruction, New Deal years, and the civil rights movement. Examines the development of black America from Reconstruction to the present and the effects of events in the United States and world history on the development of black America. Emphasizes contemporary issues and how these issues can be seen through a historical perspective.
