The Legacy of the Vietnam Wars
HST3331 / 3 q.h.
Formerly HST 4646.
Examines the impact of the U.S. involvement in Vietnam on U.S. foreign and domestic policy, as well as on U.S. attitudes toward themselves and toward the world in the period since 1975. Emphasizes postwar interpretations of that conflict, its effects on U.S. ideals, ideas of military preparedness, the economy, popular culture, and the “healing processes.” Offers students an opportunity to assess the extent to which Vietnam continues to haunt the American people and the extent to which the country has put the experience behind it. The class sets forth an agenda for future action.
