UNIX System Administration

ITC2620 / 3 q.h.
Formerly IT 4324.

Covers the essential skills needed to manage the day-by-day operations of a UNIX computer system. Reviews basic UNIX user skills. Offers students an opportunity to learn to install, configure, and start the operating system. Topics include a discussion of security issues, techniques for adding new users and groups, and management of the file system, with particular attention to preventing unauthorized access. Covers backup plans and techniques, as well as administering the mail, printing, and disk systems. Demonstrates how to troubleshoot, optimize, and monitor the system. Prereq. ITC 2615.
