Psychology of Politics

POL2310 / 3 q.h.
Formerly POL 4329.

Examines how people’s political beliefs and attitudes are shaped and what needs and wants people bring into the political process. Considers “human nature,” its impact on society, and whether a nonrepressive society is possible. Focuses on the political implications of such psychological categories as personality, attitudes, beliefs, opinions, sublimation, and repression and the psychological factors behind obedience to authority, propaganda, and political socialization.
