Remote Sensing and Global Change

RMS6230 / 3 q.h.
Formerly RS 3130.

Provides an in-depth evaluation of various components of the Earth system—the atmosphere, lithosphere, ecosphere, and hydrosphere—as well as how components of the system are changing. Offers students an opportunity to make extensive use of observations and measurements from space. Focuses on global environmental change, as well as on the human impact on the planet and the modification of environments by human activity. Air quality, natural-hazard prediction, and terrain impacts of human activity are all appraised through the eyes of remote sensing. Requires a research paper, which includes elements of remote sensing data analysis. Prereq. RMS 6110 (which may be taken concurrently).
