Deviant Behavior and Social Control

Explores the conditions under which people categorize others as deviant and the processes by which persons are assigned deviant status and assume appropriate roles and self-images. Considers the development of deviant careers and their relation to deviant subcultures. Discusses group membership as a determinant of behavior, including an analysis of status and role, patterns of authority, power, and group ideology as factors in the evaluation of conduct.
