Completes study of organic chemistry. Offers students an opportunity to learn the application of chemical conversions to synthetic problems. Topics covered include functional derivatives of carboxylic acids, sulfonic acids and their derivatives, amines, diazonium compounds, phenols, aldehydes, and ketones. Introduces biomolecules, including carbohydrates, peptides and proteins, and oligonucleotides. Emphasizes the use of organic compounds in the medical sciences. Prereq. CHM 3015.
