Introduction to Meteorology and Weather Forecasting

(formerly Weather Forecasting and Climate Change)

Starting with the fall 2009 term, this course will be renumbered as ESC 1121.


This is an introductory course describing the principle causes of large scale air motions, the classification and description of the world’s climates, and storm development. Students study the science of weather forecasting, beginning with the types of data that are collected and summarized on weather maps, and how computer models assist in forecasting. The changes in the long-term cycles of the earth’s climate are also discussed.
