Introduces the basic principles and concepts inherent in visual language systems. Fundamentals covered include visual perception, composition, spatial relationships, color, form, repetition, texture, structure, abstraction, figure-ground relationships, and basic typography. Student projects focus on visual problem solving with an emphasis on the understanding of context, content, and the development of original forms.
