Overview

Educators pursuing professional licensure as a Teacher of Middle School Science have the opportunity to advance their content knowledge and career by applying to the Professional Licensure Program in Middle School Science.

Candidates who successfully complete four of the courses approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and all other state requirements will be eligible for endorsement at the professional level by Northeastern University.

Program Objectives

  • Examine biological principles, content knowledge, and pedagogical strategies needed for teaching cell and molecular biology and genetics at the middle and high school levels

  • Explore ecology, evolution and the diversity of life, building on nationally tested, standards-based curriculum materials at the middle and secondary school levels, aligned with State and national standards

  • Investigate weather and the pivotal role that the water cycle plays in earth’s atmosphere

  • Assess concepts and principles of reflection, refraction, and interference of waves, electric and magnetic forces and fields, electrical circuits, electromagnetism and the electromagnetic spectrum
