In the Bachelor of Science in History degree program, you will gain an understanding of trends and develop intellectual perspectives--enabling you to better interpret what is happening in the world today.

In this interesting and dynamic undergraduate program, you will explore the impact that each historical period has had on present-day life. As a result, you will develop an aptitude for critical thinking—the ability to effectively conceptualize, research, and present key issues. As a graduate, you will be well equipped to pursue a career in education, academia, law, government, or with a cultural or historical organization.

If you wish to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree rather than a Bachelor of Science degree, you will need to complete 12 quarter hours of an elementary modern language plus 12 quarter hours of an intermediate modern language.


Core Curriculum

College of Professional Studies degrees* integrate a core set of course requirements that ensure all of our graduates possess a well-rounded educational background and understanding of the world. The core courses allow students to gain insights into disciplines other than their field of study, as well as develop expertise in written and oral communication and critical thinking.

Who Will Your Classmates Be?

The Bachelor of Science in History program is designed for students who have a strong interest in current and historical events, and who desire to work in federal, state, and local legislative bodies, the executive and judicial branches of government, regulatory, cultural, and international agencies, and private non-profit firms.  A history degree also provides valuable preparation for graduate study in law or public administration.

Careers to consider include:

Career Outlook

Put Your Degree to Work

Your job prospects will be dependent upon the specific field you choose. That said, history majors enjoy success in a variety of fields.  If you are interested in pursuing a career in education, then your prospects are very bright, as secondary school teaching spots are expected to grow faster than average over the next several years. On the other hand, keen competition is expected for archivist, curator, and museum technician jobs, as applicants typically outnumber openings.
