The transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program within the Bouve Institute is going well. Currently in its second year, there are over 100 students from across the country, including Hawaii, and faculty hail from both the east and west coast. The students who are all working Physical Therapists are enjoying the combination of online and hybrid courses.

Following is an update regarding some of the DPT faculty accomplishments during 2005:

Dr. Mary Ann Wilmarth, Director of the Transitional DPT Program, is a national spokesperson for Backpack Awareness for the American Physical Therapy Association. She has authored many articles and was interviewed and quoted for numerous health publications throughout the country, particularly at the start of the school year. National Backpack Awareness Day was September 21, 2005. However, educational institutions across the country are holding events throughout the year to increase awareness and improve proper backpack use. Dr. Wilmarth was also interviewed at length, in conjunction with REI, and an article regarding backpack use while hiking will be published in a prominent travel magazine.

In addition to directing the program, Dr. Mary Ann Wilmarth is the Editor for the American Physical Therapy Association Orthopaedic Section Independent Study Courses. Three courses have been published during 2005 and Northeastern University was well represented in this series as seen below.
