Some of the members of the Pre MBA Program 2008 have just received their diplomas at the end of the Spring Semester. Other members are continuing in the optional course and will receive diplomas in June.

Program Overview

Started in 1998, the Pre-MBA Program has enabled more that 125 students to gain acceptance to and graduate from MBA programs at Northeastern, in Boston, across the United States and in programs in the United Kingdom. This full-time program is jointly offered to international students by the English Language Center (ELC) and the College of Business Administration (CBA) at Northeastern University. Students accepted to the program receive I-20 visas. The university is located near the center of Boston, an historic and beautiful city, which is the university center of America and home to many world-class universities and MBA programs.

This is a successful program for students who want to improve their speaking, presenting, listening and writing skills so that they can:

• get into a top MBA program at a well-known university
• be a player in graduate MBA classes with American students
• participate professionally in international business settings after graduation.
• do well with the internet-based TOEFL and GMAT test,

Please look below in order to decide when you should start the Pre-MBA Program.

Applying in September
You can best guarantee success in meeting your MBA goals by applying to start in September. You have more time to identify which MBA program is best for you. You can visit the campuses of different schools and talk to their MBA students and admission officers. You have more opportunity to develop quality application essays as you receive feedback and guidance on your writing from expert instructors at the ELC. You have the opportunity to take eight weekly GMAT classes from Kaplan in addition to 25 hours of classes each week provided by the ELC and CBA. You have a greater chance to develop your speaking and listening skills, which are so important for success in interviews and the TOEFL iBT. You will take courses from MBA professors, which give you scope to increase your business vocabulary and become accustomed to how graduate students achieve success in American classrooms. Starting in September, you will make yourself a more attractive applicant to MBA programs and build a stronger resume based on the intensive and rigorous training you will have received in the Pre-MBA Program. Read more about the Fall Semester.

Applying in January

Starting in January in the Pre-MBA Program is difficult. You are competing with students who have had months of training and practice because they started in September. You must be special to meet this challenge. Your language and time management skills need to be very strong. As you experience the heavy demands on your energy and time to keep up with your course work in the Pre-MBA Program, you will also have to meet deadlines to submit your MBA applications in February, March and April. You should have already prepared your application package and done GMAT preparation before you come. Read more about the Spring Semester.

After Pre-MBA Graduation
Most students who complete the Pre-MBA Program successfully are accepted to two or three MBA Programs. You will have to submit your application package to schools of your choice, and meet requirements of TOEFL 600/250/100 and GMAT 550, which are typical standards for many programs. The Full Time MBA Program at Northeastern University welcomes your application. Final acceptance decisions will be based on your application essays, academic background, work experience, your scores on the TOEFL and GMAT exams and your performance in the Pre-MBA program. You need to understand that there is no guarantee that you will be accepted to the full time MBA Program at Northeastern University because you enrolled in and completed the Pre-MBA Program.

You will receive extensive assistance and advice if you choose to enter MBA programs in other universities. At the conclusion of the Pre-MBA Program, you will be issued a Certificate in Pre-MBA Studies at Northeastern University indicating successful completion of all program requirements.

“How perfect the Pre-MBA program is! In this program, you can make friends, improve your English skills, also learn some business knowledge, and the most important thing is that you'll never feel bored.”

— Hao Wu, Pre-MBA 2008
