Harvey Shapiro

Harvey Shapiro is a faculty member in the Department of Education. Dr. Shapiro teaches courses on curriculum design and assessment. Dr. Shapiro recently served as a peer reviewer for Teachers College Record andStudies in Philosophy and Education. His most recent publications include Educational Theory and Jewish Studies in Conversation: From Volozhin to Bucascz (Lexington Books, 2012); “Revisiting Deconstructive Pedagogy: Testifying to Iterability ‘at once, aussi sec’” in Philosophy of Education Society Yearbook (2012); and “To Give an Example Is a Complex Act’: Agamben’s Pedagogy of the Paradigm” in Educational Philosophy and Theory (2013). Dr. Shapiro is a member of the Philosophy of Education Society, the American Educational Research Association, and the Network of Research in Jewish Education. He serves on the Jewish Studies Executive Committee and is co-chair of the Department of Education’s Curriculum Committee.

Previously, Dr. Shapiro served as dean of the Shoolman Graduate School of Jewish Education at Hebrew College.
