Northeastern University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Stephen W. Director announced today the appointment of John LaBrie as Dean of the College of Professional Studies and Vice President for Professional Education in a message to all university faculty and staff. The message reads:
I am very pleased to announce that John LaBrie, Interim Dean of the College of Professional Studies since May 2010, has been appointed Dean of the college and Vice President for Professional Education, effective immediately.
Since assuming the interim role nearly two years ago, John has overseen the ongoing expansion-in depth and quality-of CPS programs, and has played a continuing and important part in planning for Northeastern's first regional campuses in Charlotte and Seattle. He is a leader in continuing education whose experience in professional and graduate-program development, online and on-site education, and global collaboration matches the accomplishments and aspirations of the college.
Prior to joining CPS as a senior fellow in the doctorate of education program, John served as dean of continuing studies at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he led the largest continuing education university program in western Canada and oversaw the creation of Simon Fraser's first online graduate degrees. His professional leadership roles include terms as the national president and executive director of the North American Association of Summer Session, the nation's largest professional association for directors and deans of summer and special session programs. He has also served on accreditation review teams in Canada and conducted program and management reviews of continuing education programs in the United States.
John holds an undergraduate degree in French from the University of Maine in Fort Kent, a master's degree in administration from St. Michael's College in Vermont, and a doctorate in education from the University of Pennsylvania.
I look forward to continuing to work with John as a key member of Northeastern's academic leadership team. Please join me in congratulating him on his permanent appointment.
