This course examines the development of human service policies and organizations in the United States. In addition, students will be taught the basic issues in contemporary human services and the basic principles of research utilized by human service professionals.

This course examines methods for involving community residents in decision-making systems at the local level. It features ways in which residents are empowered through community-based business and economic development, health and human services, and housing and neighborhood revitalization projects. Students will learn methods for facilitating community involvement, constructively engaging diverse groups of stakeholders in strategic partnerships, and building communities. |
