Since 9/11, terrorism has become part of the American psyche. This course provides an understanding of the nature of political crime and terrorism, the nature and extent of the problem historically and currently, and prevention efforts designed to combat political crime and terrorism. Students learn about several sources of information on political crime and terrorism including the news media, scholarly sources, and video accounts.

Understanding the Department of Homeland Security

This course is designed to introduce students to the newly established Department of Homeland Security. The course will examine issues such as interdepartmental workings, legal restrictions placed on the DHS mandate, how the DHS interacts with international agencies, and how effective the DHS has been since its inception. |
