About the Opportunity

Northeastern University’s Graduate School of Education is pleased to offer the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) PlusOne program to undergraduate students in the College of Science, and students within select majors in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and College of Arts, Media, and Design. For students who aspire to be elementary or secondary classroom teachers, this program provides a pathway to earn a teaching license in Massachusetts and launch a career in education.

The MAT PlusOne provides students with an understanding of diverse educational needs, social concerns, and how humans learn and acquire knowledge. The program includes pre-practicum/early fieldwork observations and a full term of student teaching. Upon completing the MAT PlusOne, students will be well positioned to make a meaningful impact in schools, communities, and in the lives of students.

Planning Ahead

As a student enrolled in one of the approved majors, you will need to work with your advisor to develop a program of study that meets the requirements for this program. Your advisor can help walk you through the best path to complete your major requirements and select core courses and electives that prepare you with the appropriate subject matter knowledge for teaching.
