Edward J. Barr, Esq. began his national security career as an infantry officer with the US Marine Corps. After his initial active duty period he transitioned to the Marine Corps Reserve. He earned his JD and MA (International Affairs) from George Washington University and worked as an attorney in Washington, DC before joining the Central Intelligence Agency, where he served as an operations officer. He departed CIA for private practice and soon after September 11, 2001 he was recalled to active duty. Ed served in countries throughout Southeast Asia and the Middle East to include leadership as the senior military HUMINT and Counterintelligence Officer (J2X) in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Djibouti. In 2004-5, Ed led the team that wrote the first Joint Chiefs of Staff doctrinal publication on CI/HUMINT operations (J2X). From 2007 - 2009 he served as US Central Command’s senior counterintelligence and HUMINT officer, responsible for intelligence operations in 27 countries (J2X). He retired as a Colonel. Ed has served as a Subject Matter Expert on Counterintelligence with FBI Tampa Division's Foreign Counterintelligence Squad. He has published several articles in newspapers and professional journals and has appeared on several radio and television shows, including FOX News Sunday. He consults on due diligence and counterintelligence matters for public and private sector clients, as well as members of Congress. He is a former faculty member of the National Intelligence University and continues to support the Intelligence community as a trainer of HUMINT and Counterintelligence skills.
